Memory Kitchen, 2020
Kitchen, Paint Pens, Collaboration
Funded by Liverpool Biennial and Lancaster University
Completed as part of her residency with Liverpool Biennial and Lancaster University, this work of Williams' explores the inter-generational memory between her Grandfather and herself. Over the course of a week, the pair worked together, recording their conversations about memory and relationship directly on the doors of Williams' Grandfather's kitchen. This came at a pivotal point in their relationship, developing from a period of healing and re-building - as such, the creation of the work was used as a sort of therapy as well as an exploration. At the end of the installation, the kitchen was replaced, leaving Williams with just the doors that had been written on, which are now, themselves, objects of memory.
